Sex, and Sexy.

As a teenager, here is an observation about teenagers.

We are obsessed with sex.

No shit.

But that’s the point! We’re all aware of this obsession with the act, the gender, the thoughts and feelings attached to sex, but it’s sort of weird how we don’t really talk about it.

Okay, badly phrased.

It’s sort of weird how we don’t really talk about it seriously.

Even though, it would seem, that we actually want to.

When teenagers talk about sex, it’s usually along the lines of… well a joke. Lets face it, most teenagers have the “dirty mind” thing down to a fine art. Insinuation, pun, laughing over things that really aren’t sexual but can be, by an incredibly stretch of the imagination, made out to be, that’s the common theme here people.

When teenagers talk about sex, we’re not actually talking about sex. We’re talking about… crap really.

So why don’t we talk about sex?

It’s endlessly fascinating for a start. It’s this whole world of feelings and considerations, interactions and decisions, over thinking things and working out what the hell to do.

That whole concept of young people becoming over sexualized, I think, is a little bit silly. Perhaps it’s just the people I choose to hang out with, but all this sexualizing of young people, it’s pretty shallow.

The clothes, the music, the movies, they may have sexy themes but they’re not really about sex, are they. The actual act, the actual reasons people have sex. Because that’s too intimate, that’s too personal. It’s uncomfortable to talk about. So the whole thing is just watered down to that concept of “sexy”. “Sexy” and “Sex” are not synonymous. At least, I don’t think they are.

I think one of the reasons sex is so fascinating is because it is so personal.

So yeah.
